Fognini and Goffin to play the Gijón Open
The Italian and the Belgian, both former Top 10 players, join the previously confirmed entries of Pablo Carreño and Roberto Bautista
Former Top 10 players Fabio Fognini (ITA) and David Goffin (BEL) have confirmed their entry to the new Gijón Open ATP 250 that will be held from October 8 to 16 at the Palacio de Deportes La Guía in the Asturian city. They join the previously confirmed entries Pablo Carreño and Roberto Bautista.
The 35-year-old Foginini remains among the best players on the circuit, ranked at number 60 this week and is a nine-time title-winner, including the 2019 Monte Carlo Masters 1000, his last triumph.
He has also reached the semi-finals in Belgrade and Rio de Janeiro this season, and the quarter-finals in Buenos Aires.
Born in San Remo, Fognini was ranked No. 9 in 2015, and David Goffin No. 7 in 2020. The Belgian holds 6 titles on the circuit, reaching his last one in Marrakech this year.
The twice Davis Cup runner-up is ranked No. 62 currently. He reached the quarter-final at Wimbledon this year, and the last 16 at the Masters 1000 in Madrid and Monte Carlo.
The official entry list for this first edition of the Gijón Open will be announced next week.
